WHAT IS AEGIS, AND WHAT DOES IT DO?

"Becoming a fully accredited member of AEGIS involves a rigorous inspection process.
Accreditation will only be granted once the inspectors are satisfied that the Guardianship Organisation meets all of the AEGIS inspection criteria and standards.
”

Yasemin Wigglesworth Executive Officer, AEGIS

AEGIS, The Association for the Education and Guardianship of International Students, is the authoritative association for inspecting and accrediting Guardianship Organisations and Schools throughout the United Kingdom.

AEGIS regulates and monitors its members, all of whom provide education and/or Guardianship to students from other countries into schools and colleges within both the independent and maintained sectors both as day and boarding pupils.

The two principal aims of AEGIS are:

First, to ensure to the greatest extent possible that a Guardianship Organisation meets fully the standards and requirements of current safeguarding and child protection legislation and practice in respect of the care of overseas students in residence while studying in the UK;

Secondly, to ensure that the highest standards of care, safety and supervision in respect of both the pastoral, social, cultural and educational welfare and well being of international students while studying in the UK are maintained by the Guardianship Organisation

To become a fully accredited member of AEGIS, a Guardianship Organisation must undergo a thorough and rigorous inspection process, attend annual information and training conferences, and be re-inspected regularly. Accreditation will only be granted once AEGIS inspectors are satisfied that the Guardianship Organisation meets all of the AEGIS inspection criteria and standards.

During inspections, the following categories of documentation are scrutinised by independent and highly-trained inspectors:
  • Legal paperwork, proper contracts and insurance

  • Systematic information sharing

  • Screening of employees and host families

  • Training

  • Feedback

To ensure compliance with all of the above categories, AEGIS checks with schools, host families, send questionnaires to overseas parents and schools to check on the quality of our service and training.

So in choosing an AEGIS accredited guardianship organisation, parents can be sure they are doing all they can to ensure the safety of their child.

At J&D UK LTD (Trading as JD Consultancy) our priority always is the protection, safety and
well-being of a child.
